Take Action

In Your Community:

Educate yourself
What is human trafficking? How is it different from other crimes?
How can I identify trafficking victims or perpetrators?
Common myths and misconceptions about human trafficking.
Recommended reading: Girls Like Us by Rachel Lloyd

2) Report a Tip
How do I report a tip about human trafficking?
National Human Trafficking Hotline: 1-888-3737-888 (all day, every day)
Austin Police Department, Human Trafficking Unit: 512-974-4786

3) Build a Community Response
Build better understanding in your community.
There is help if you’ve been a victim of trafficking and/or sexual abuse. Share your story.
Join the ALLIES or other groups/task forces near you that are fighting trafficking.
Mentor vulnerable youth - particularly homeless, runaway or foster care youth.
Stop buying sex. Consider the relationship between the demand for commercial sex and human trafficking.
Start a book club to read and discuss Girls Like Us or other trafficking books.
Tell your community watch group about the issue, and train community members to identify and report the crime.
Invite Trade In Hope to facilitate a presentation and film screening.
Examine supply chains when you purchase; buy slave-free or free trade products.
Be creative! But you don’t need to be original. If something has worked somewhere else, why not try it where you live?
